Silicone rendering · Kent
Modern, through-coloured render that transforms the outside of a property. Over 30 years of hands-on experience on domestic and commercial rendering across Kent.
A few details is all we need to get back to you.
In plain English
Silicone render is a thin-coat system that goes on over a prepared background. A base coat and reinforcing mesh go on first, then a through-coloured silicone topcoat is applied and finished to an even texture.
Because the colour runs through the topcoat rather than sitting on the surface as paint, it does not need repainting every few years in the way a painted finish does. The silicone content helps the surface shed rain while still letting moisture out of the wall, which matters on older properties.
It is not the right answer for every wall. Damp problems, failed pointing and blown existing render all need dealing with first, and on some properties a different system is more appropriate. We will tell you what we find rather than quoting for the job you asked for and hoping.
Before and after
The same house in Kent, photographed from the front. Rendering straight over a finish that has already failed stores up problems, so where the old render has gone, it comes off first. That middle step is the part most people never see.
What we cover
Silicone rendering is our busiest service, but it is not the only system we work with.
The benefits
Rendering is a considered investment, so here is a fair account of what it can offer — and what depends on the property.
An even, contemporary finish that changes the character of a dated elevation completely.
Through-coloured topcoats in a broad colour range, so you can choose a finish that suits the property and the street.
No repainting cycle in the way a painted finish needs, although like any external surface it benefits from occasional cleaning.
These systems are designed to resist driving rain when they are correctly specified for the property and correctly installed.
For most properties this is the main reason people call us: the outside finally matches the work done inside.
Depending on the construction and condition of the property, breathable options may be the more suitable choice. We will advise on what fits your walls.
A render system performs as intended only when it is specified for the property it is going on and installed correctly. Any underlying issue — damp, failed pointing, blown existing render, poor detailing around openings — needs putting right first. We would rather tell you that at quotation stage than after the scaffold is up.

Questions
Silicone render is a modern thin-coat render system. The colour runs all the way through the topcoat rather than being painted on, and the silicone content helps the surface shed water while still allowing the wall to breathe. It is applied over a base coat and mesh, on top of a prepared background.
Often it can. Where the existing pebbledash is sound and well keyed, it can usually be prepared and rendered over. Where it is loose, blown or hollow it needs removing or another approach. We look at the elevation, tap it and tell you honestly which of those applies before quoting.
The colour is in the render itself, so it does not need painting in the way a painted sand and cement finish does. Like any external finish it will still need occasional cleaning, and how often depends on the property, the aspect and the surroundings.
There is a wide range of colours available across the render systems we use, from plain whites and off-whites through to greys and darker shades. We can show you the colour options for the system being quoted so you can see them properly before deciding.
It depends on the size of the property, the amount of preparation needed, the scaffold and the weather. A typical semi-detached house is usually a matter of days rather than weeks once scaffolding is up. Render systems have minimum temperature and drying requirements, so we plan the programme around the forecast.
External rendering almost always needs scaffolding for safe access. We will discuss access with you as part of the quotation so you know what is included and what is not.
Yes, where a repair is the sensible answer. Cracked, blown or damaged areas can often be cut out and made good. Where an elevation has failed widely, a repair is usually a false economy and we will say so.
